Site Information:
The Maraú Peninsula is located on one of the ends of the Camamú
Bay, South Bahia. It still remains a wild and exuberant area because
the access not being very easy somehow keeps the peninsula protected.
The region has 40 Km of wild beaches, coral reefs , coconut trees, isles
and mango tree plantations.
How to get there
By Plane
Our usual pick up service is at the Ilhéus airport with a 4WD air
conditioned vehicle (Land Rover) and a second vehicle that belongs to
Landtour which is based in Itacaré.
After a 65 km drive through a paved road that leads to Itacaré,
the Contas River is crossed in a ferryboat. Then there's another 32 km
drive - this time on an mud road - passing through a picturesque track
with giant bromeliads in the middle of the tropical forest.
By Car
Arriving in Itacaré as described above, or through Ubaitaba.
The route that leads to Ubaitaba is BR-101. The distance from Ubaitaba
to Saquaíra is 63 km and the conditions of the mud road (BR-030)
can make it a tough trip.
Another option is driving to Camamú (paved road) and crossing the
Camamú bay by boat or schooner to reach the Jobel port (Saquaíra).
This is a nice and pleasant trip as the bay is very well preserved.
Air Taxi
Visitors in a rush to run away from civilization or the lucky ones who
have the chance to arrive faster, can use air taxis that will take 40
minutes to fly from Salvador airport to the local landing fields located
in
Barra Grande (17km) and Taipus de Fora (14km).
BLUE AIR offers regular flights on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at
very reasonable prices.
